The Emerald Ash Borer conitnues its migration through Pennsylvania and New York causing significant White Ash mortality and valuable product loss. The prescribed treatment for infected forests, according to Penn State and Cornell Co-Operative Extensions, is removal off all infested stems. Forest owners should be removing infected White Ash stems from their valuable forests immediately to maintain forest health and maximize product value before mortality.
Emerald ash borer (EAB), is an exotic beetle that was discovered in southeastern Michigan near Detroit in the summer of 2002. The adult beetles nibble on ash foliage but cause little damage. The larvae feed on the inner bark of ash trees, disrupting the tree’s ability to transport water and nutrients.
